About this event

Free Public Event – Healthwatch Assembly – Tackling Health Inequalities in Wandsworth

  • Date: 13th October 2022
  • Time: 1:15pm – 3:45pm
  • Venue: Earlsfield Library, 276 Magdalen Rd, London SW18 3NY

Come along to our event in October to hear about and comment on practical steps being taken to reduce health inequalities* in Wandsworth. You’ll hear about some specific examples of work by community champions within the community and we’ll discuss what is important to ensure health inequalities are addressed.

Come to this event if you want to know how to make a difference in your community or to connect with others who are making a difference already as health champions.

If you're already working hard to try to make a difference to champion health in your community then you might like to join our discussions about how we improve health in our community and hear from some of the people who are telling us about what they are doing.

  • Mary Idowu, Director at Wandsworth Place Partnership, NHS South West London will give us an update on the evidence of health inequalities in Wandsworth.
  • Thomas Herwijer from SWL NHS will be kicking us off with an update on projects he has been working on with community groups to ensure early detection of health conditions and reducing health inequalities relating to these conditions. A community champion, Geetha Maheshwaran will tell us about the many things she has been doing with the Tamil community.
  • Lynn Capocciama will tell us about championing the community in Roehampton.
  • Polly Rawlings, Wandsworth Care Alliance, will talk about her new project and opportunities to become a health champion.

Book your place on Eventbrite or give us a call to make sure you have a place. It’s free to attend, and any member of our Wandsworth community is very welcome, we want you to be part of the conversations.

This is an event focused on communities in Wandsworth, anyone is welcome as this is a free event to any member of the public and community organisations.

Light refreshments will be provided.

*Health inequalities are avoidable, unfair and systematic differences in health between different groups of people. Health inequalities can involve differences in health status, access to care, quality and experience of care, risks to health and whether other things impact on health, such as quality of housing. You can read more about them here.
