Improving Accessible Transport for All in Wandsworth.

Wandsworth Older People’s Forum brought together residents and people in charge of a variety of transport-related services in Wandsworth - read on for information about what was discussed.

Transport is vitally important to us because, without good, accessible transport it can be difficult to do the things that we need to do to live our lives. Without the ability to get about easily it can impact our health and wellbeing and can leave us isolated.

Wandsworth Older People’s Forum brought together residents and people in charge of a variety of transport-related services in Wandsworth on 14th October 2025.

The Mayor of Wandsworth opened the event reminding us of how important the forum is to raise the issues affecting residents and Natalie De Silver from Age UK Wandsworth reminded us what accessible transport should look like and how it can keep our community connected and well.

During the conference residents then heard from a number of speakers about various transport services available and the transport issues impacting residents were discussed.

 This includes:

  1.  AGE UK London campaigns to improve transport – John McGeachy
  2. Accessible transport for people who can’t use mainstream transport – Steve Mendonca, Wandsworth Council
  3. Wandsworth Community Transport Shopping Service, Outings and Shop Mobility – Paul Atwood and Marcia Millington
  4. Assisted Travel – Chris Newport, Transport for London
  5. Update from Council Leader about actions since the last conference - Councillor Simon Hogg
  6. Update from Councillor Jenny Yates and David Tidley, Head of Transport at Wandsworth Council on renewal programme and transport issues.
  7. Bus accessibility, including driver training – George Marcar, London Buses
  8. London TravelWatch – Lara Sonola
