It Starts With You - What Did We Learn?
Awaiting a referral for specialist care [outpatients department] can often
take a long time and there needs to be a better system in place to manage
this.
What we did
Whether your contribution is big or small, every last bit of information we receive from you is vital and helps us to get a handle on the big health care picture in Wandsworth.
Every year we run a number of consultations on different aspects of health and social care services in Wandsworth, such as mental health services, St George's Hospital and General Practitioners.
All of the information we collected via these consultations was first of all sent to service commissioners and providers to help them make changes and improvements to their services that local people really need and value.
Thanks to a couple of our Volunteer Research Officers we were also able to analyse much of this feedback and pick out some of the major or recurring themes and service areas that came up in our conversations with you.
We'll use this analysis to guide our work over the years and to help us focus on services that either need particular attention, or that should be publicised more widely.
Key Findings
GP services were commented on most, over a third (35%) of all comments
Mental health services received 20% of comments
Hospital Outpatient services received 13% of comments
While it may be understandable that there was a high number of comments about GP services, which are typically the most commonly used service for members of the public, there was a high frequency of comments around mental health services.
The main themes were
- General Praise
- General Complaint
- Appointments
- General Feedback
- Managing Condition
- Access
- Mental Health
- Referrals
- Communication
- Medications/Prescriptions
