Healthy Place, Healthy Weight - Childhood obesity workshop

Working in Partnership with Wandsworth Council, Elays Network and Live Karma Yoga we will be hosting a workshop focused on childhood obesity in Wandsworth.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together community members, NHS, and voluntary sector members to be at the heart of a whole systems approach to tackling child and family obesity. A whole systems approach means applying systems thinking and methods to understanding this public health challenge. Involving community members, voluntary sector members as well as people from the NHS and other organizations in mapping out problems and coming up with solutions is key to this way of doing things.

The first workshop aims to map local facilities and spaces that support or hinder healthy choices and healthy weight. The focus will be on the Queenstown area as well as the wider borough of Wandsworth. The workshop will be based on thinking about what supports or hinders people in making healthy lifestyle choices and maintaining a healthy weight in Wandsworth. The first two parts of the workshop will be working in groups to brainstorm what the main issues are that contribute to family and childhood obesity and what spaces and places support people in making healthy lifestyle choices. The final part of the workshop is about mapping these ideas onto a map of the area.

Lunch will be provided and we hope that the workshop will be an interesting and useful way to map out problems and solutions to this public health challenge.
